Councilwoman Gumbs Collects over 500 Dolls for Underserved Children

This year, more than 500 dolls were collected for underserved children at Bring Out the Dolls. Hosted by Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs and AIME, LLC Founder Tracy Rolle, the annual event rallies the South Fulton community around the “reason for the season.” The dolls will be distributed through a partnership with Help a Child America. “Knowing that you have made a child's Christmas a little brighter is one of the best gifts you can receive,” said Gumbs. “We are grateful to all of our partners and donors who make this annual event a success. The generosity and compassion shown by our community members are what make South Fulton a wonderful place to live.” Residents of South Fulton and neighboring municipalities joined Gumbs and Rolle at St. James Live! on December 12 for the “party with a p...

Westlake Students Support Christion Abercrombie for ‘Do Good December’

Last night, Westlake High School students held the first of two "Do Good December" events in support of graduate Christion Abercrombie and his family. The second event, taking place today, December 19 at 4:00 p.m. at Westlake, will be a school homecoming for Abercrombie. The event will include remarks from his family, former coach and teammates as well as a special presentation from the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy and 21st Century Leaders -- two student groups who coordinated the events. “We’re trying to give back to Christion and his family because he gave so much to Wes...

Christmas Ball and Toy Drive Brings Hope to Victims of Violent Crime

The holidays can be an especially difficult time for grieving families. This year, to help ease the pain, DreamBIG Angel Network is making Christmas wishes come true for families who have been the victims of violent crime. “For some children, this may be their first Christmas without one or both of their parents,” said Lynn King, a South Fulton resident and the organization’s founder. “It’s important for them to be able to experience the joy of Christmas, if just for a day, and remember what it’s like to have fun.” DreamBIG Angle Network is raising money for its efforts with the Dream Royale Casino Masquerade Ball and Toy Drive hosted by Porsche Foxx on Saturday, November 24 at 7:00 p.m. The event will take place at Elysium Event Center at 1851 Hawthorne Avenue in College Park. South Fulton Gets Opportunity to Weigh in on AeroATL Greenway Plan

In early 2017, the Aerotropolis Atlanta Community Improvement Districts (AACIDs) were awarded a grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) to complete the AeroATL Greenway Plan. When finished, the comprehensive trail master plan will connect communities around Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, including Forest Park, East Point, College Park, Hapeville, and portions of South Fulton and Clayton County. According to Kirsten Mote, program director at AACIDs, the area will include portions of Districts 1, 2 and 3 in the City of South Fulton. Residents of these districts are asked to complete a community survey and share their vision and thoughts on the master plan. The feedback gathered will help guide the exploration of opportunities to create bicycle and ped...
